The Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection 2016 runway show put the fun back in fashion.  Empowering music was pulsating throughout Moynihan Station and the audience was a sea of red.  Nearly everyone, men and women, wore some hue of red, versus the classic New York black seen at most fashion week events.

Before the show began EXTRA Correspondent, AJ Calloway, introduced the show.  He spoke of the work Macy’s has done in collaboration with Go Red for Women and The American Heart Association.  Since 2004 Macy’s has raised more than $55 million to fight against heart disease in women.  With that money, over 280 women each day are saved.  Heart disease in women is a serious issue.  Three thousand women die each day from a heart related illness and 1 in 3 female deaths are because of heart disease and stroke.  But this night was not about death, it was about empowering women to take care of their bodies.  It was about celebrating life.  With that: the show began.

The Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection 2016 was about more than just couture... It was a night for women to empower women.

The collection featured 24 beautiful and strong women who are all celebrities in their own right.  Each woman donned a red couture gown made by 23 different designers. The designers ranged from Marchesa to Nicole Miller, Jay Godfrey to Badgley Mischka.  The models ranged from Alexa Penavega, Misty Copeland and Florence Henderson to Lennon & Maisy Stella and Gigi Gorgeous.  A diverse array of females were displayed in this show which is a true testament to every woman’s unique beauty.  Each woman had her own song to which she walked down the runway, each ballad perfectly tuned to the model’s personality.  The enthusiasm of the crowd was contagious.  By the end of the show everyone was on their feet and clapping to the beat of Rachel Platten’s Fight Song.  It was a truly one of a kind experience.  All in all, The Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection 2016 was more than just couture.  It was a night for a cause and for creating awareness, a night for women to empower women.
