Should You Do What You Love?

Always.  However, you may not always love what you’re doing.  We all work towards the day when we can do what we love and only what we love, but for many of us our professional track doesn’t begin that way.  On the other hand, we’ve all heard too many stories about people who feel they wasted their “best years” forsaking what they love.

Try to find someone older than you who is doing primarily what YOU love and in a way you respect.  Offer to buy them a coffee or drink in exchange for some wisdom (everyone likes a genuine compliment). Once you have them across the table from you ask them about what they love and how they got to where they are.  AFTER you’ve heard their story, you can explain why you're curious.  In my experience, you’ll walk away from the table with a much clearer idea of the field, valuable pointers on how to navigate it, and potentially even an offer to take you under their wing-- an invaluable position.
