You probably loved the ubiquitous rose gold trend of 2016 and 2017.  The beautiful, rosy hue was found everywhere, from streaks of pink in hair to the introduction of the rose gold iPhone.  However ‘Millennial Pink,’ as its informally nicknamed, had its moment, and there’s something a little different on the horizon for 2018.

At the beginning of the year, Pantone Inc., known as the color forecasting authority, dubbed Ultra Violet as the 2018 Color of the Year.  The authority states that, 'as individuals around the world become more fascinated with color and realize its ability to convey deep messages and meanings, designers and brands should feel empowered to use color to inspire and influence.  The Color of the Year is one moment in time that provides strategic direction for the world of trend and design.'

The dusty, medium purple hue will definitely have its influence on the word of design, but so will its sister: the lighter lavender.  The spring-like hue has been showing up in everything from Solange’s eyeshadow to Victoria Beckham’s runway appearance at New York Fashion Week.  InStyle even dubbed the hue their favorite breakout color during NYFW and discussed its potential in 2018.  Glamour also listed lilac as one of the best spring 2018 trends from the week.

The Easter egg hue is fresh and youthful this spring, and complements a variety of colors - like sleek neutrals and pale pastels.  From misty mauve to ultra violet, this is a shade that is sure to take over design, fashion, and even furniture in 2018. Glamour says about its competitor millennial pink: 'It's kinda basic. Which is why you can expect its less overexposed cousin—lilac (and lavender and violet) to show up everywhere this spring, starting with your wardrobe.'

Lavender is a tranquil scent, and color, but it still carries the purple tone that has been well known in the past for its association with royalty and regality. This means you’ll feel confident and in command when sporting it. “Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality,' Pantone reports.

The rising phenomenon has already begun to make a name for itself through designers like Tom Ford, Michael Kors, Max Mara, and Valentino.  You can purchase this Max Mara lavender shrug and these Valentino dusty mauve pumps at Saks Fifth Avenue.  Try incorporating this playful yet feminine color into your wardrobe this spring!
