Matt Overend is an artist who has lived and worked in the Lowcountry of South Carolina for the past thirty years. His work runs the gamut from landscape oil paintings to plaster and chicken-wire nude sculptures. Most recently he has been working on a series of foil "paintings" made by sketching a still life or nude and then overlaying hand-cut strips of colored foil, essentially painting the work with foil. Difficult to truly appreciate on a computer, they are incredibly dimensional and alive in person.

Matt's work of late has been primarly focused on the female nude in many forms - as a series of "Goddess" paintings (Eve, Lilith, Venus, Pandora, etc.), as a "gesture" series - the study of women's bodies posed in space; as an entirely different medium of foil paintings of the above subjects; and as wire and plaster sculptures, which rise up from their wooden bases, exist briefly, and then fade back into themselves and our own imaginings.
