Scandal S4 E20 "First Lady Sings the Blues"

Abby: We need you to weigh in on whether it's legal for someone to run for senate while married to the president.
David: Well, uh, yes, it's legal, but only because no one ever considered the idea that a first lady would ever run for office. I'm betting if they had, there'd be a law on the books. The ethical implications alone--
    Abby: But it is legal?
    David: Yes
Abby: Because no one ever imagined that a woman would ever get an idea in her pretty, little head to run for office.
    David: Yess, Abby.
Abby: So Mellie Grant's run for senate is legal because of misogyny.

hahahahh so great I had to transpose that! Who else loves Scandal??

So I wanted to share with everyone a new health service I am starting, Viome.

Like most of my health info I found this through the ultimate health podcast interview with the creator Naveen Jain. To me this sounded like the perfect solution to my problem. I wanted a more holistic health care provider but felt that naturopathic doctors were too expensive on top of the health care costs I already pay.

I have always felt strongly that food is medicine and I have always been curious about my microbiome. I have some auto-immune diseases that I have tried to cure by trial and error so for me Viome will help take out the pesky guess work.

I’ll be posting more once I get my analysis back in a few weeks. And feel free to ask me any questiOne. I am also linking up the Viome website and the podcast episode I listened to.

I first heard about infrared Ayana's listening to The Ultimate Health Podcast episode 140 with Raymond Francis author of 'the great American Health Hoax' and 4 other best selling books. After listening to this episode it was so clear to me how important adding an infrared sauna to my health routine was and how I needed to ditch my microwave ( I've been 4 months microwave free!)

    The Facts:

Your skin is your biggest organ and sweating is how you detoxify.

'IR penetrates deeper—up to three inches—it mobilizes and burns fat, which not only helps with weight loss but with detoxification as well, since many of the toxins we absorb are surrounded and trapped by fat.' -Dr Junger

15 min everyday or 30min 4X, but for those of us who are super busy and don't have an infrared sauna in our home, working out, a hot bath or anything else that makes you sweat is a great compromise for daily detoxification and if you can commit to 1 or 2 times at an infrared sauna a month that's great!

      http://goop.com/city-guide/infrared-saunas-detox-spas-and-the-best-spots-for-colonics/

After my first session the yoga studio I went to didn't have a shower so while it was fairly cheap for a 30min session it was not ideal and I was really uncomfortable putting my clothes back on and was continuing to sweat and my skin was bright red. I am looking for another place that is affordable ( $15-20 a session) that has a shower and is more spa like. I don't see this being a hop in for a half hour after work routine, its more of a weekend 1hour + type deal.

Please let me know if you have any questions or are looking for additional resources to aid in your research!

Have a happy and healthy week,
    Amanda

    STRESS

For most of us this is a daily occurrence. Often times I am running off adrenaline and suffer massive headaches as I start to come down.

Stress contributes to many undiagnosed health problems and it’s important to replenish your mind and body!

After a couple stressful weeks at work I picked up this great tonic for adrenal support!

You can read about adrenal fatigue here:  https://draxe.com/3-steps-to-heal-adrenal-fatigue/
    Or listen here:

Does anyone else suffer from this or have more information to share?

    Hi Group!

Sorry for the radio silence it’s been a crazy few months at work!

I just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing and also to talk to you about promotions.

It's October and typically reviews don't start happening until April but it's never too late to start thinking about your goals and expectations. I think the biggest lesson I have learned in the last 10 years is to be clear about what you want and to ask for it, and second to that is to go above and beyond your job expectations. Using these 2 things and a few other tricks I am going to outline for you how I was able to increase my income by 70% in 5 years!

To start I should explain my career is in fashion merchandising. I went to SUNY Cortland and received my Bachelors in Art and was fortunate that my internship turned into my full time job.

My 5 year journey started when I switched jobs. I was making an assistant's salary and with 3 years of experience and taking on many more responsibilities than was required for an assistant, I was able to negotiate an associate level salary making 5k more a year. At this assistant level job I was working 50+ sometimes 60 hours a week, there was nothing I didn't volunteer to help with. I was super organized, hit all of my deadlines and often met with my boss to ask questions about projects we were working on. I was fortunate enough to fill in as a merchandiser for outlet and offprice when someone from our team left, I will admit that sometimes it depends on the opportunities that become available to you.

Then from age 26-27, my associate level job allowed me to make overtime. We were a small division and there was a lot of work to be done so I took advantage of the opportunity and worked a minimum of 50 hours a week. I had heard from other associates that they were able to leverage their overtime when it came time for a promotion which is exactly what I did. I was making an extra 20k in OT which is more than I would have received with the usual 10% they give for a promotion. I also was feeling frustrated that after 3 years I still had not received a promotion so I took a new approach, I set up a meeting with my president and asked for a promotion. I came to the meeting with my original job description and wrote all the additional responsibilities I had after 3 years as well as new processes I implemented that helped make our team more efficient. My President was so impressed with my achievements and my ambitious attitude, and it really helped to have her on my side and fighting for my growth and best interest. In the end I received a title change to Manager and secured the additional 20k onto my base salary.

At this point in my career the fashion industry was not doing well and many people from major companies were getting laid off. It was a scary time by the time I was finally able to get a promotion I was not able to negotiate for more than my gross salary with overtime. But the plus side to this was I no longer had to work the overtime to secure the extra 20k a year and I could focus my energy on my health and work-life balance which till this point did not exist.

From 27-30 I have been increasing by the standard 3% cost of living increase which came out to be another 6k a year.

So in total over the course of 5 years from age 25-30 I negotiated 30k to that starting salary. I am now working on my next 5 year career plan and how I can double my current income and land a VP title!

bSmart has taught me so many great things. One of them is to dream bigger, which is harder than it seems and the other big thing is that you need to create your own opportunities. And my work experience made me learn that I need to speak up for my-self and be clear about my goals and expectations.

I would love to hear your experience with promotions and asking for raises!

A picture of Death Valley in California showed up on the log in screen of my computer. Intrigued by its beauty I clicked to learn more and I had to share this National Park with the community. I think this might be my trip for 2018.
